My husband is the first.
I happened to remember what we were supposed to do last night while I was taking my early morning shower. I hoped with every fiber of my being that he hadn't checked yet. Sadly, the look on his face when I stepped out of the bathroom said it all.
"What's wrong, bud?" B buries his face in his hands and sobs, "The Tooth Fairy didn't come!" I glance at my husband and see both guilt and shame wash over his face. What do I say to this child? I try to assure him that he wasn't forgotten. My husband tells him that, "She must have been REALLY busy."
Man, we suck.
The only thing that makes me feel a little bit better about this whole thing is the fact that B thinks the Tooth Fairy forgot him - not his PARENTS! I mean, children are supposed to disappoint their parents, not the other way around.
I could sit here and really get into the nitty gritty of how this could have been avoided, but I won't. It happened. Will this ever happen again? I certainly hope not. Are we alone, or are there other loving parents who have dropped the Tooth Fairy ball?
Good gravy, I hope so!
