The New Girls on the Block

Meet Puffy and Fluffy.  These are our new hens.  They are Speckled Russian Orloffs and they are right at point of lay.  For all of you non-chicken people out there, that means that they are mature enough to start laying, they just haven't yet.  Ever since we lost Lola to the puppies, we knew we wanted more hens.  I love getting chicks, but it just takes so long for them to start laying.  And we want eggs NOW.  So, I put up a post on the Valley Permaculture Alliance and within hours I found our newest girls.

They are adjusting just fine and if anything, they have solidified the fact that we need a new coop.  Like yesterday.  So, that is my next project.  For now I will focus on keeping them safe and looking forward to what they will look like after their molt in a year or so:
