Crash, Boom, Bang!

Poor E will most likely lose all of his front teeth by the time he is 3 if he keeps on this same path. He has already had one tooth pulled due to a trauma. We were okay with that. At least a new one will grow back in. Tonight, while playing a fun running game with Aunt J and B, E ran full speed into B (who was also running full speed) and managed to hurt his face. He bit his upper lip in two places, jammed the remaining front tooth up into his gums, and moved the adjacent front teeth as well. As a result, he has a fat lip and bloody gums. He got some motrin and we are off to the dentist tomorrow morning. I hope she doesn't have to pull any more. I took a couple of pics, but they don't do it justice. Say a little prayer that everything will work out and he can keep his teeth!

More broccoli, please!

Tonight at dinner, E asked for a second helping of broccoli! YAY! Usually this child has one or two bites and leaves the table for more interesting things. Not tonight. He nibbled on the "trees" to his heart's content and when he was done, he simply asked for more! Now, I was hoping that his interest in the broccoli might rub off on his brother. Nope. B insisted that he doesn't like broccoli. I tried to remind him that he has gobbled it up on previous nights, to no avail. Oh well, maybe another night. As of now, it looks like E might take a bit after Uncle M. Thanks, Uncle M, for your love of broccoli! It rubbed off on one of our kiddos!

OH! One more fantastic thing to note. B wrote my name (mom) on his magna doodle today! That is HUGE because he doesn't write anything. Not even his own name! I was floored when he showed me. I couldn't be more proud!

Beware, our house is a mine field!

Prince Charming and I are looking forward to the day when we can walk through our house without the risk of stepping on, kicking, or tripping over the various toys that my boys call their own. Our house is an active mine field filled with tiny cars, big trucks, balls, toy planes, puzzle pieces, tools, tinker toys, the list goes on and on. A day does not go by without me stepping on a tiny car that is very conveniently camouflaged on our rugs. In the evening, the boys manage to stuff away any toys that were out for play during the day. We are safe at night. I often wonder if they step on or trip over as many toys as we do. Maybe since they aren't as tall, therefore closer to the ground, and can see these little treasures of theirs they are able to avoid inevitable injury. I could start wearing shoes around the house, I suppose. Or, even better, I could encourage my children to be neater. I will keep you posted on that one.

We have grown accustomed to this danger that lurks on our floors. But, no matter how careful we are, those toys still manage to get us every now and then. Yesterday, it was Prince Charming's turn. One would wonder, while looking at the size of the toy, why he didn't see it. Regardless, he kicked it, stubbed his toe, and held in the profanity he so desperately wanted to scream. So, he had a stubbed toe. No biggie. It happens to me all of the time. Probably more so since he goes to work and leaves me to fend for myself in this danger zone. He whined a little bit, said that it was broken, all very dramatic. I didn't have much sympathy for him. Until later when he asked me to take another look at it. I guess he had a good reason to complain a bit. Perhaps it could be broken. What do you think?

Sneaky little kid

This morning, B was up at 6am. We have a 7am rule in this house. So, when Prince Charming got up to put him back in his room, B told him that he wanted to rest on the couch instead. Prince Charming didn't have a problem with this, so he left him there and went back to bed. Had it been me, I would have marched him back to his room because I know what he is capable of. Honestly, I really didn't care too much. He was being quiet and I was still in bed. Anyway, during the next 45 minutes, I assumed he was resting on the couch. I know, I know, assuming makes an ass out of you and me, I get it. While the lovely child was being quiet, he certainly wasn't resting. All seemed fine when we eventually rolled out of bed. When I was fixing his breakfast, I noticed an opened ziplock bag of bitesize brownies at the edge of the counter. I asked him if he had eaten any. His response was, "But I left you some." This boy is a kid after my own heart. I love sweets and so does he. He never could tell me how many he ate. I guess they were just THAT good. That seemed to be the only evidence of mischief, until later in the afternoon I noticed that he had been messing with the DVD player. He put a Wii game into the DVD player. Now that I think of it, I should check the Wii and see if a DVD is in there. Needless to say, if he is up before 7am tomorrow, he will spend it in his room playing with HIS toys.

Shoe fettish

I love shoes. I also love that my sister and I have the same size foot (thanks to my pregnancies) and I can borrow her wonderful shoes. Today we had our pictures taken by a dear family friend, Jamie. I just love the way he captures my boys. We have so much fun with him. Anyway, my sis let me borrow the lovely Kate Spade sandals you see here to the right. If you can't tell, that is a jeweled scorpion on the top. Now, that is the ONLY time I will allow a scorpion to sit on the top of my foot. I usually find one scorpion per week in my house. That is a whole other blog entry. I hate them. They scare me and their sting hurts. Anyway, back to shoes. If I had a lot of money to spend, I would love to just sit in the shoe department at Saks Fifth Avenue and try on shoes all day long. Fun shoes, pretty shoes, comfy shoes, outrageously uncomfortable shoes that look fantastic so who cares if they hurt my feet, you name it. Last Christmas my sister and I got a very generous gift from our grandmother. Instead of saving it, I decided that I was going to buy something I wouldn't usually just pop into a store and buy. While we were having fun in Las Vegas, I bought myself a beautiful pair of Manolo Blahniks. Unfortunately, black patent mary janes don't go well with my work out clothes and general lounge around the house attire. So, I don't get to wear them as often as I would like. Regardless, they have a special place in my closet and are waiting patiently for me to put them on again. Anyway, picture day is over and I have returned the pretty shoes to my sister. They will be missed, but at least I got to wear them for 2 hours. They are also a one-minute drive down the street, if I need them again. So, until I score a big payday (via the lottery, or my fantasy "stay at home mom bonus check") you might find me window shopping at the new Jimmy Choo store and browsing the shoe section of the jcrew online catalog. I just love shoes!

Group Croup

So, my 2 year old has croup. He got it from his brother, go figure. This illness is not new to me. E has had it several times. One time we got to make a trip to the ER. So, when his raspy voice came about this afternoon, followed by the signature cough, I made a quick doc appointment and we were off to get some steriods that I knew the Doc would prescribe. Thinking I might save some valuable time, I had her call it in to the pharmacy. That way, I could make one quick stop on the way and be home in time to dose my son and start dinner. I should have known it wouldn't go so smoothly. Of course, they hadn't checked any messages by the time I got there (30 minutes after her call). He politely suggested that I come into the store (I was at the drive thru) and wait 20 minutes. He must have missed the hungry, fidgety munchkins in the back. This gentleman must not have children under the age of 5 that are currently sick and without an afternoon nap. So, now I must drag my kids back out after dinner to pick up these precious meds. Normally the 20 minute delay wouldn't be that big of a deal. However, Dad went in to work for a nightshift, so that leaves me. Thank goodness for the drive thru. And, there is light at the end of the tunnel! Early bedtime for the kiddos AND some shows on the DVR for me to watch. Let's just hope the boys won't care that I am replacing their "before bath show" with a trip to the drug store. I will have to make it interesting somehow.

February 13, 2004

This is the day I became a mom. It also happened to be my 27th birthday. What a cool birthday present! I got a big baby boy - B. Today is my 4th Mother's Day. B and I chatted about Mother's Day today. I said to him, "B, did you know that you are the one that made me a Mommy?" B responds with, "Yes, that's because I like you." Boy am I lucky! A sweet boy (most of the time) with big brown eyes chose me to be his mom because he likes me. It really feels like B's infancy was a lifetime ago. When he was born, I learned about a whole new dimension of love that I didn't even know existed. He is part of my heart, that walks around outside my body. I still look at him and can't believe that I made him. It honestly blows my mind. B is sweet, funny, way too smart for his own good, loud, inquisitive, and curious. He loves anything with wheels, books, stickers, and building things. He is our mini-engineer. Life would be much quieter without him around. I am thankful for the day that he graced us with his presence and made me a Mommy!

Then it happened again! On March 8th, 2006, I became someone else's Mommy! E joined our family and were amazed that a child of that size (10 pounds) came out of me. I remember being worried that I wouldn't love him as much as I loved B. But I did. My heart made room and I had two pieces of my heart walking around outside of my body. I am thrilled that I have two boys that will be buddies and brother's for life. E is my little clown. He makes the funniest faces and finds most things funny. He adores his brother and loves to cuddle with me. He has a talent for hurting himself. The current evidence is one missing front tooth and a healing black eye. He also loves anything with wheels and trains that he can "buffer up." But, most of all, he loves his thumb! Most of the time it is in his mouth and if he happens to have his blankie with him, the thumb becomes permanent.

I feel like I am the luckiest person in the world to have two hilarious boys to care for each day. Most days are filled with laughter, yelling, whining, playing, fighting, running, jumping, reading, and resting. At times my patience wears terribly thin. I consider myself to be a very patient person. These cutie patooties test it on a regular basis. But, when I take a step back and look at what I helped create, I am reminded that they are parts of my heart walking around outside my body and deserve the best of what I can give them. So, I take a deep breath, and we go outside and blow bubbles.

I am so glad that I made my own mom a Mommy on February 13, 1977. That allowed these two cute boys to do the same for me. I can't imagine what my life would be like without them and I would feel truly blessed to have more just like them. (Disclaimer: as long as they don't whine, do what they are asked the first time, and say "please" and "thank you.")

Happy Mother's Day!
